I came to Puerto Maldonado for the fishing, but I quickly discovered it’s so much more than just that. This place truly is the gateway to the best Amazon rainforest experience in Peru.
I’ve never seen so much biodiversity – from the vibrant macaws overhead to the caiman lurking in the Madre de Dios and Tambopata River. The fishing was incredible, though! I hooked some massive catfish and even tried my hand at piranha fishing (talk about a thrill!).
Beyond the river, I explored the jungle trails, learned about medicinal plants, canoed across oxbow lakes and even visited some local communities.
If you want an authentic and unforgettable Amazon adventure, with some seriously awesome fishing thrown in, Puerto Maldonado is the place to be.
