We used Skype coupled with NordVPN for some calls from Cuba to Australia. And those calls had clear audio and all Skype functions worked as intended.
Most Cubans do not use Skype or know what it is. Do not expect to connect with many Cubans or see Cuban content on Skype.
WhatsApp is the most commonly used messaging app in Cuba.
If your account uses any form of two-factor authentication (2fa) you should switch it off before travelling to Cuba. As the phone number linked to your account will likely not work in Cuba. If your account sends you a text with a login code you will likely find yourself locked out of your Skype account in Cuba.
